Wolf Down Ottawa, a culinary gem bringing Berlin-style döner kebabs to the capital, has opened a second location in Kanata. In a city known for its vibrant shawarma culture, this unique eatery introduces a fresh twist on Berlin-inspired street food, making it a must-try for suburban food enthusiasts.

As a fellow Kanata resident, I’m thrilled to have this restaurant just a three-minute drive away. After my first visit, I can’t believe I didn’t go sooner! Here’s why you should add it to your foodie bucket list.

Walking into Wolf Down for lunch, I was struck by its clean, modern aesthetic. The illuminated wolf logo sets a sleek, contemporary tone, while the brick-letter menu board and urban industrial decor make the place feel trendy and welcoming. Everything about the space speaks to meticulous attention to detail, from the spotless counters to the state-of-the-art equipment.

What sets Wolf Down Ottawa apart

What truly distinguishes Wolf Down Kanata is its commitment to authenticity. Their electric meat shavers, imported directly from Germany, showcase their dedication to recreating the true Berlin-style döner kebabs in Ottawa. This technique ensures a perfectly shaved, evenly cooked protein. As a shawarma enthusiast, I found this distinction particularly intriguing.

In conversation with co-owner Abdou Boulmani, it's clear that accessibility is a priority. That’s why the menu is thoughtfully curated to cater to virtually every dietary preference and restriction:

  • Vegan options

  • Gluten-free choices

  • Halal certified

  • Dairy-free alternatives

  • Keto-friendly selections

These options are prominently displayed at the counter, simplifying the ordering process for those with specific dietary needs.

The Main Event: The Döner Experience

For my meal, I opted for the signature sandwich with a twist: a combination of beef and chicken. Why choose when you can have both? Served on fresh focaccia bread, this masterpiece was loaded with:

Two hands crafting a döner sandwich
Wolf Down Ottawa's sandwich comes with: crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, perfectly diced onions, and two signature sauces

  • Crisp lettuce

  • Fresh tomatoes

  • Crunchy cucumbers

  • Perfectly diced onions

  • Two signature sauces:

    • "Secret" sauce

    • Spicy sauce (with a vegan version, made with garlic and peppers)

As someone who is incredibly picky about where I spend my dining dollars,  this sandwich better be good. And this? This exceeded all my expectations. I even wanted to go back the next day. The combination of flavours and textures creates a harmonious blend setting it apart from your typical sandwich, and the portion size was just right—filling but not overwhelming.

Don't skip the drinks

No meal is complete without a drink, and I’m never one to skip out on chocolate milk. Wolf Down’s chocolate cashew milk stole the show. This creamy drink is a healthy indulgence made with simple, wholesome ingredients:

  • Cashews

  • Dates

  • Cacao

  • Agave

  • Sea salt

This drink is a dream without all the unhealthy ingredients attached to it. It's a perfect example of Wolf Down's attention to quality and perfectly complements the bold flavours of the döner kebab.

Final Thoughts

Wolf Down’s fantastic food—catering pretty much to every dietary need—and welcoming atmosphere sets it apart from other Ottawa dining places.

Every customer was greeted with a smile, and with speedy service. And I'm not the only one loving this place, while I was enjoying my meal, I overheard someone tell the staff, "I don't know if you guys are new, but that was really good!"

The new Kanata location makes this unique culinary experience of Berlin-style döner kebabs accessible to suburban residents who previously had to trek downtown to their Bank Street location for a döner fix.

Whether you're already a döner fan or just looking to shake up your usual lunch routine, you must try this place. Trust me—you will be ‘wolfing it down’, and thinking about your next visit before you even finish your first bite.
